This Saturday marks a new day of tension in the Middle East. Since Monday, the Israeli army has been carrying out an offensive in southern Lebanon, one of the strongholds of the powerful Hezbollah movement, supported by Iran. The strikes also target the capital Beirut. This Friday, three Lebanese hospitals announced the suspension of their activities due to IDF attacks.
New clashes on Saturday
The armed Hezbollah movement said on Saturday morning it was involved in clashes with Israeli troops on the Lebanese border, as new explosions rang out in Beirut’s southern suburbs. Additionally, Hezbollah claims to have fired rockets at an Israeli air base near Haifa in Israel.
Hamas announces the death of one of its commanders
The IDF says it struck Hezbollah members at a command center built inside a mosque in Bint Jbeil, southern Lebanon, inside the Salah Ghandour hospital complex. According to the army, the command room was used by Hezbollah members “to plan and carry out acts of terror against IDF troops and the State of Israel.”
Additionally, Palestinian Hamas announced the death of one of its commanders and his family in an Israeli attack on a Palestinian refugee camp near Tripoli in northern Lebanon.
Iran’s supreme leader defends “resistance” against Israel
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei led Friday prayers for the first time in five years, saying Iran will not “procrastinate and rush to carry out its duty” in dealing with Israel.
