In Russia, scammers are using ChatGPT to craft smarter and more credible phishing emails. Anna Kulashova, Managing Director of Kaspersky Lab, told reporters about this at SPIEF.
“Artificial intelligence is a tool, and like any tool, it carries both opportunities and threats. And, of course, it will be used from all sides, including we have already seen attacks using ChatGPT,” they shared their vision of the situation Kulashov.
In her assessment, ChatGPT, when used correctly, is able to more quickly adjust and rebuild the set of words in sentences. This makes it easier for scammers too.
Previously, when it was clear that the letter was strangely composed, there are errors, which means that this is phishing. With the use of ChatGPT, there are much fewer errors in these letters, the expert pointed out.
According to her, AI can be used for spear phishing when attacking various organizations. But such attacks can also be dealt with, Kulashova concluded. She added that while the use of neural networks is not widespread. It’s difficult and expensive.

ChatGPT was launched on November 30, 2022 and attracted attention for its wide range of features: writing code, creating texts, being able to translate, getting accurate answers, and using the context of a dialogue for answers, although its actual accuracy has been criticized.
At the beginning of February 2023, Reuters, citing the Swiss holding UBS, reported that in 2 months the audience of active users of ChatGPT reached 100 million people. This application has set a historical record for the growth of visitors.
