Discussions between Germany and Spain for the establishment of a unified European air defense system

by time news

Spain and Germany will discuss plans for the establishment of a common anti-missile GNA system for both countries, led by Germany.

The discussions on the subject will take place this week in Madrid, the German Embassy in Spain announced in a radio interview. However, the Spanish government denied that the issue of a unified GNA system was on the agenda at this week’s hearing.

The ambassador claims that discussions on the issue have already taken place with the participation of NATO member countries. The ambassador told Reuters: “The issue is definitely on the agenda.”

Chancellor Olaf Schulz was the first to propose establishing a joint GNA anti-missile system, in a speech in Prague in the summer. In September, German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht said that Berlin aims to sign agreements with NATO members to establish the GNA system, and Germany is looking for a partner for the project.

This week the Spanish government approved a draft annual state budget in which there is an increase in defense and security spending “to meet NATO’s demands from the allies.”
