When is it used the verb suspectThe complement that expresses that in which one does not trust or in which one has little security or hope is preceded by the preposition of.

In the media it is common to find phrases like “Zhang distrusts that Ngannou has a chance against Fury”, “Experts distrust that the slowdown in the Euribor will serve the mortgaged” or “Family members distrust that it is a natural death.”

As pointed out by Panhispanic dictionary of doubtsthe verb suspect is constructed with a complement introduced by the preposition of (suspect something). So, it is not appropriate to delete the preposition when what is not trusted is expressed by a sentence that begins with what (“Don’t trust him to keep his word.”)

Thus, in the previous examples the appropriate thing would have been to write “Zhang distrusts that Ngannou has a chance against Fury”, “Experts distrust that the slowdown in the Euribor will serve the mortgaged” and “Family members distrust that it is a death natural”.
