Officials of the transport department say that this year, 5 lakh people are likely to go to their hometowns in special buses run by the Tamil Nadu government on the occasion of Diwali festival.

Special buses are being operated by the Tamil Nadu government for the people to go to their hometowns during the festive season. In the past special buses were run during Diwali festival. Last year 2020, 3 lakh 91 thousand people traveled in 8,753 buses from Chennai.

Likewise, 4 lakh 8 thousand people have traveled through 9,472 government buses in 2021. Now, ahead of this year’s Diwali, buses have started running from Chennai this morning in 5 centres. Buses are plying from centers including Koyambedu, Thambaram, Poontamalli, KK Nagar and Madhavaram.

Today only 10,518 buses will be operated for 3 consecutive days including 3,537 buses including regular buses and special buses. Officials say that 1 lakh 51 thousand people have made reservations till now. Also, after the corona virus, there is a possibility that the number of passengers will increase this year and more than 5 lakh passengers are likely to go.

Similarly, more than 1 lakh 50 thousand people are going to their hometowns in more than 50 trains operating from Chennai Egmore and Central railway station.
