Local Athletes Shine

Denis Morris Catholic High School recognizes top athletic achievers.

  • Jamie Kamendy and Tyler Thompson were named Senior Athletes of the Year.
  • Jose Gras and Molly Mencfeld were recognized as Junior Athletes of the Year.
  • Students excelled in basketball, volleyball, soccer, lacrosse, and more.

Jamie Kamendy, a Grade 11 student, was named Senior Female Athlete of the Year at Denis Morris Catholic High School. This award recognizes her outstanding contributions to the school’s sports programs. Kamendy’s exceptional performance highlights the school’s commitment to athletic excellence.

Kamendy played basketball, volleyball and soccer and was part of the Reds’ girls soccer team which placed fourth at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) A/AA championships.

Tyler Thompson, a Grade 12 student, was named Senior Male Athlete of the Year. He was a key player on DM’s field lacrosse team, which earned a silver medal at OFSAA. Thompson also played football, volleyball, hockey, badminton, flag football and squash for the school.

Jose Gras, a Grade 10 student, was named Junior Male Athlete of the Year. Molly Mencfeld, a Grade 9 student, earned the title of Junior Female Athlete of the Year. Gras participated in cross country, track, and swimming, where he placed in the top eight in two events at OFSAA.

Mencfeld played on both the junior and senior girls volleyball teams, participated in the ski club, and secured a silver medal in senior tennis at OFSAA.
