Do Blue Light Glasses Really Protect Our Eyes? New Analysis Raises Doubts

by time news

Blue light glasses may not be as beneficial to eye health as previously believed, according to a new analysis. Researchers reviewed data from 17 randomized controlled trials and found that glasses marketed to filter out blue light make no difference to eye strain or sleep quality. The findings were published in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews journal. The studies analyzed varied in size and length, and the authors suggest that further research is needed with longer follow-ups and more diverse populations to assess the potential effects of blue light filtering lenses. While blue light blockers may not do any harm, experts recommend taking screen breaks instead. Ophthalmologists recommend small breaks away from screens every 20 minutes and following the “20-20-20 rule,” which entails looking away from the screen every 20 minutes for 20 seconds at an object at least 20 feet away or farther.
