Mumbai: Some franchises are opposed to hosting Mumbai Indians’ matches at Wankhede Stadium Mumbai during the IPL 1522 season. The reason for the franchise’s objection is that the Mumbai Indians will get home benefit in Wankhede. At the same time, the final decision on the dates and venues of the IPL matches will be taken.

‘No other team will get home matches. It would be unfair if Mumbai had to play too many matches in Wankhede. Wankhede has been the home ground of the Mumbai Indians for years. Franchisees have raised this issue. The Times of India quoted an unnamed franchisee as saying that the Mumbai Indians have no objection to playing in other venues in Mumbai and Pune. The franchises hope that the BCCI will consider the matter.

Earlier, the BCCI had said that India would host the entire edition of the IPL 2022 season. The matches will be played at five stadiums in Mumbai and Pune. The venues are Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai), Brabourne Stadium (Mumbai), DY Patil Stadium (Navi Mumbai), Reliance Cricket Stadium (Navi Mumbai) and Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium (Pune). For the first time since the 2019 season, India is gearing up for a full-fledged IPL.

The IPL governing body and the BCCI have not yet announced the schedule for the upcoming season. However, the tournament is expected to start in the last week of March. The season will last until the end of May.
