Miami Community Spotlight: Networking, New Healthcare Facilities, and a Stellar Theater Season
Miami-Dade County remains a vibrant hub of activity, with recent weeks showcasing a blend of professional networking, advancements in healthcare, and a thriving arts scene. From business mixers to cultural premieres and community events, the region offers a diverse range of opportunities for residents and visitors alike.
Coral Gables Professionals Connect at Monthly Mixer
The Coral Gables Bar/Rotary Club hosted its monthly mixer on July 9 at Doc B’s on Miracle Mile. While attendance was slightly lower than usual, the event proved fruitful for networking, with several prospective new members in attendance. This recurring event, a joint effort and mini fundraiser, takes place on the second Wednesday of each month at various locations throughout the community.
Incoming Bar president Daniel Fors was among those present, alongside members and friends including Bruce Bounds, Cristy Garcia, Jerry Kavulich, and Gabriel Quiroga. Looking ahead, the 2025 Coral Gables Bar Installation Gala is scheduled for September 6, from 7-11 p.m., at the Loews Coral Gables Hotel. Further details can be found at www.coralgablesbar.org.
Actors’ Playhouse Premieres Acclaimed New Play
The cultural calendar is highlighted by the United States premiere of “Step by Step” at Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre. Described as a “rollercoaster of memories, emotions, and personal revelations,” the play promises an evening of laughter, witty dialogue, and memorable one-liners.
The storyline centers around three women on a hiking trip, each carrying an inscribed stone intended as a monument at the peak. The production is penned by Peter Quilter, the acclaimed author of “End of the Rainbow,” which inspired the Oscar-winning film “Judy” starring Renée Zellweger. The play opened on July 18 and runs through August 10, featuring brilliant performances by Anna Lise Jensen as Monica, Kareema Khouri as Paula, and Elizabeth Price as Sophie. Tickets are available at Actorsplayhouse.org.
Amavita Heart and Vascular Health Opens State-of-the-Art Center
In the realm of healthcare, Amavita Heart and Vascular Health celebrated the grand opening of its new, state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center (ASC) on June 26. Located at 9408 SW 87 Ave, Suite 303 in Kendall, the 15,000-square-foot facility represents a significant investment in minimally invasive cardiovascular care.
Led by Dr. Pedro Martinez-Clark, a Harvard-trained interventional cardiologist with over 26 years of experience, the center will offer same-day cardiovascular and vascular interventions utilizing cutting-edge robotic-assisted surgical technology, intravascular imaging, and 3D echocardiography.

The district recognized the Coconut Grove Woman’s Club, led by President Illine Davila, for achieving the largest membership increase – approximately 25 new members, bringing their total to 180. The Coconut Grove club recently upgraded its sound system and will host a celebratory dance party on August 2, featuring DJ Nicholas Martin and music from the 1970s, 80s, and beyond, from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased by calling Illine at 305-970-1162.
