Dodgers President Kasten Reiterates Team Not for Sale

Dodgers president Stan Kasten reaffirmed on August 22, 2026, that the team is not being sold, dismissing speculation triggered by controlling owner Mark Walter’s $12.5 billion sale of the Lakers and ongoing federal investigations into his financial empire.

Kasten’s assertions came as Walter, CEO of TWG Global, faced scrutiny over his financial dealings, including a federal investigation into his insurance companies and a reported effort to sell his minority stake in Chelsea F.C. Despite these developments, Kasten maintained that the Dodgers’ operations would remain unaffected, stating, The Dodgers are not being sold. They’re not gonna be sold. They’re not for sale. There’s no process that has been started to sell it, period.

Kasten’s Repeated Denials

We are planning only to win, he said, framing the Dodgers’ future as independent of Walter’s other business ventures. Kasten described the Lakers sale as “sui generis,” a one-of-a-kind event with no connection to the Dodgers’ ownership structure. The Lakers thing was what we lawyers call ‘sui generis,’ he explained, it really has nothing to do with what’s happening with us or the other teams.

The Dodgers’ financial resilience was highlighted as a key factor in Kasten’s confidence. The Dodgers stand on their own pretty well, Kasten said, citing the team’s very stable, well-managed, and [with] very solid ownership.

Lakers Sale and Broader Business Shifts

The rapid turnaround sparked questions about his broader business strategy, particularly as TWG Global faces federal investigations into its insurance operations. Kasten acknowledged the scrutiny but insisted it had no bearing on the Dodgers. I know nothing involving the Dodgers is part of the investigation, he said, adding, You don’t have to trust me, but I’m telling you.

Walter’s other ventures, including a potential exit from Chelsea F.C. and ongoing disputes with partners like Todd Boehly, have fueled speculation about his financial priorities. However, Kasten dismissed reports of a “cash crunch,” stating, The Dodgers aren’t going anywhere. He also addressed rumors of Walter seeking to sell parts of his motorsports empire, including the Cadillac Formula One team, but emphasized that nothing involving the Dodgers is part of the investigation.

Investigations and Ownership Stability

The federal probe into TWG Global’s insurance companies, led by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York and the SEC, has raised concerns about the broader impact on Walter’s sports holdings. Bloomberg reported that TWG Global is seeking investors to refinance debts tied to its insurance subsidiaries, a move that has fueled speculation about asset sales. However, Kasten maintained that the Dodgers’ finances are separate.

As the federal investigation continues, the Dodgers’ future remains tied to Walter’s ability to navigate his financial challenges. While Kasten has ruled out any immediate sale, the outcome of the probe could influence long-term decisions. However, analysts note that external pressures on Walter’s empire could eventually force difficult choices. For now, though, Kasten’s message is clear: We are continuing with our plans going forward, like we always have had them.
