Does this also work with old hair?

My mother, born in 1942, had very thick, long hair as a young girl and wore it in a braid at the time. When she began her apprenticeship as a saleswoman at the age of 14, she had her hair cut off. Her youth was over for her, the bob was fashionable, and long hair requires a lot of care. The braided braid lay wrapped in wrapping paper in the closet for all these decades. Along with a mink collar, this braid was probably one of the most valuable souvenirs of her youth.

When my mother died two years ago, I came across this braid and wondered what I should do with the hair. They didn’t have the same meaning for me as they did for my mother.

A curl as a reminder

A friend who was suffering from cancer lost her hair at this time. This made me realize what it does to a person when they can’t wear their own hair and have to rely on a wig. Real hair has a different value than synthetic hair.

When I sent the braid to the human hair store, I was worried about whether the quality would meet the requirements due to its age, but I then learned that hair is eternal. The braid measured about 25 to 30 centimeters when braided and was light brown, the color of my mother’s hair as a young girl. I got 70 euros for it, but that wasn’t my point. I just thought it was a shame to throw away the hair when it could still be put to good use.

This text comes from the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung.

If the hair is not used for a wig but for extensions, which is used for people who want fuller hair, that’s okay too.

By the way, after my mother died, I cut off a lock of her current hair and put it in a box. That’s the memory for me.
