Dog Rescued from Elevator: Dramatic Video

Buenos Aires Musician Rescues Dog Hanging from Elevator, Revived with CPR

A harrowing scene unfolded in Buenos Aires this Thursday as a local musician successfully rescued a dog that became trapped by its leash in an elevator door. Teh incident, described as “a Dantesque scene” by the rescuer, highlights the importance of rapid thinking and potentially life-saving skills like CPR.

The drama began around 1:20 p.m. in a 13-story building in the Villa Crespo neighborhood. Leo Blumberg, a composer and producer, was in a meeting at his music studio when he heard the building’s elevator alarm – a sound he initially dismissed as another routine entrapment. However, the urgency in a neighbor’s cries for help quickly revealed a far more serious situation.

“She told me ‘dog, dog, dog’,” Blumberg recalled. “At frist I didn’t understand why. Then I went down to the entrance hall and saw him.”

What he found was a dog suspended from the elevator door, its leash caught as the doors closed while the animal attempted to enter. The elevator had begun to ascend, leaving the dog struggling for air. Security camera footage captured the terrifying sequence, showing the animal dangling helplessly.

Blumberg, who also serves as director of the music program at ORT, promptly recognized the gravity of the situation. He drew upon training he had received at the institution, recalling key principles of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

“I saw the hook on his waistband and released it as quickly as I could,” Blumberg explained. “My dog has the same leash so I knew how to get him out. When I grabbed him he had almost no vital signs, he didn’t react. I gave him CPR as best I could. I know how to do it in people, but in a dog it is not the same. In any case, I started doing compressions until little by little he recovered.”

Did you know? – Pet CPR differs from human CPR. dog and cat chest compressions are typically performed over the widest part of the chest, and rescue breaths are gentler. Training is recommended.

The rescuer’s swift action proved critical. After several moments of compressions, the dog began to regain consciousness.Blumberg then reassured the distraught owner, communicating as best he could in English while the building manager worked to free the stalled elevator. He kept the animal safe in his apartment until the owner’s boyfriend arrived.

The incident has left Blumberg deeply moved and inspired to action. He is now collaborating with a veterinarian to develop a short song explaining how to perform CPR on pets, believing this knowledge could be invaluable in similar emergencies. “It is useful and necessary details,” he stated.

Pro tip: – Keep yoru pet’s leash short when entering elevators. This reduces the risk of entanglement if the doors begin to close unexpectedly.

This rescue serves as a powerful reminder of the potential for everyday citizens to become heroes and the importance of being prepared to respond in critical situations.
