Dolly Parton, the Queen of Country, recently revealed that she turned down an invitation to have tea with Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales. The 77-year-old singer disclosed the incident during her interview on BBC Radio 2 while she was in London for work.
Parton expressed her appreciation for Middleton’s gesture, saying, “I thought it was very sweet and nice of her to invite me, and one of these days I’m going to get to do that – that would be great.” However, she humorously added that she declined the invitation because Middleton wasn’t going to promote her upcoming rock album.
The globally renowned artist, set to release her first-ever rock album titled “Rockstar” on November 17, explained that she wished she had more time to explore London. Parton has always admired the city and its people, but her busy schedule doesn’t allow for sightseeing. She shared that she had previously explored London while on tour with her band.
“Rockstar” includes 30 tracks, featuring nine original songs by Parton and 21 covers of iconic rock songs. The album boasts collaborations with renowned artists like Miley Cyrus, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Sting, Elton John, and Stevie Nicks. Parton expressed her excitement about presenting her first rock and roll album, saying, “I hope everybody enjoys the album as much as I’ve enjoyed putting it together.”
Parton’s decision to record a rock album came after being nominated for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Initially hesitant due to her background in country music, she eventually accepted the nomination, explaining, “It inspired me to put out a hopefully great rock and roll album in the future, which I have always wanted to do.”
