Domene Scores But SG Pipers Fall to Ranchi Royals in Hockey India League
The Argentinian forward Tomas Domene continued his impressive scoring form in the Hockey India League on Wednesday, but his goal wasn’t enough to prevent a 6-2 defeat for his team, SG Pipers, at the hands of Ranchi Royals.
The Hockey India League, a short-form field hockey competition that commenced in December in Asia, continues to showcase exciting talent. Domene, a 28-year-old striker hailing from Córdoba, registered his fifth goal in just four games for SG Pipers. Despite his contributions, the team remains near the bottom of the standings with only 4 points.
Domene honed his skills at the Córdob Jockey Club youth academy and has quickly become a key player for SG Pipers. However, the team struggled against a dominant Ranchi Royals side.
The Royals’ victory was largely fueled by the exceptional performance of Belgian attacker Tom Boon, who scored a remarkable five goals in the match. Boon now leads the championship with a total of 10 goals. A teammate of Domene’s on SG Pipers, Tomas Santiago, also participated in Wednesday’s contest.
In the other match played on Wednesday in Ranchi, league-leading Vedanta Kalinga Lancers secured their fourth consecutive win with a 1-0 victory over Hyderabad Toofans.
Current league standings are as follows:
- Vedata Kalinga Lancers: 11 points
- HIL GC: 10 points
- Tamil Nadu Dragons: 7 points
- Ranchi Royals & Bengal Tigers: Points not specified.
The Hockey India League continues to provide a platform for both established and emerging field hockey stars, with Boon and Domene currently leading the charge in the goal-scoring charts.
