Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell delivered a dominant second-half performance, scoring 27 of his game-high 36 points as the Cavaliers defeated the Orlando Magic 119-105 on Saturday night. The victory marks the Cavaliers’ fifth win in their last six games.
The Cavaliers overcame the absence of key players, including Darius Garland (sore finger) and DeAndre Hunter (sore knee), to secure a decisive win against a Magic team struggling to find its rhythm.
Cavaliers Find Their Rhythm in the Second Half
After a closely contested first half, the Cavaliers pulled away in the third and fourth quarters, fueled by Mitchell’s explosive scoring. He finished the night shooting 15 of 30 from the field, adding nine assists and two steals to his impressive stat line. Jaylon Tyson contributed 17 points for Cleveland, while Evan Mobley added 13 points and seven rebounds.
“Mitchell really took over in the second half,” one analyst noted. “His ability to create shots and drive to the basket was the difference-maker.”
Magic Struggle from Beyond the Arc
Despite a strong performance from Paolo Banchero, who led the Magic with 27 points, Orlando couldn’t overcome its shooting woes. The team shot a dismal 11 of 40 (27.5%) from the three-point line, contributing to their third consecutive loss – the first time the Magic have dropped three straight games since October. Desmond Bane added 20 points for Orlando, and Anthony Black finished with 16 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
The return of Jalen Suggs after an eight-game absence due to a right knee bruise provided a spark for the Magic, as he contributed nine points and six assists in 24 minutes. However, it wasn’t enough to overcome the Cavaliers’ momentum.
Wagner Remains Sidelined, Cavaliers Continue Ascent
Orlando also played without forward Franz Wagner, who missed his second consecutive game with a sore ankle. His absence further hampered the Magic’s offensive capabilities.
The Cavaliers’ win solidifies their position as a contender in the Eastern Conference, demonstrating their resilience and ability to win even when facing adversity. The team’s balanced attack and Mitchell’s star power proved too much for the Magic to handle on Saturday night.
