Thiruvananthapuram ∙ It has been suggested that teachers should no longer call students Poeta or Poetee in schools. The Education Department has issued a circular banning such practices. The reason for the change is that the teachers should act as role models for the students.

The directive says that teachers should not use words that harm the personality of students, and should take special care to have only the kind of words and behavior that should be exemplary for students. The bans were implemented based on some complaints received by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Earlier, the Child Rights Commission had suggested that teachers should be called teachers only.
