It’s a sequence that risks getting people talking. During a visit by government spokesperson Olivier Véran on Friday afternoon to the town of Hayange (Moselle), a tense exchange between two deputies from the department, Belkhir Belhaddad (Renaissance) and Laurent Jacobelli (National Rally), took place was captured by the cameras of our colleagues from du Republican Lorraine.

The clash between the two men began during a discussion between Olivier Véran and a resident of the town. “Public utility extras are not our place,” says Laurent Jacobelli to the government spokesperson, before being echoed by Belkhir Belhaddad: “We have to stop with that.” A response that was not to the taste of the elected RN.

“Is Hamas okay? »

“Is Madame Leduc well? », then says Laurent Jacobelli to his colleague, thus referring to Charlotte Leduc, MP for France Insoumise for the 3rd constituency of Moselle. “You share flowers with her. Is Hamas okay? », he continues, echoing the latter’s political label and the criticized position of LFI on the Islamic movement in power in Gaza.

Following these comments, Belkhir Belhaddad twice told Laurent Jacobelli “not to threaten him”. “You speak to me differently, I’ll tell you right away. Scum (…) Don’t play your scum,” replied the elected representative of the National Rally. Questioned following these exchanges by the Republican Lorrain, the latter regrets “a private conversation which should not have happened in public”. MP Renaissance says he is “shocked and angry” and denounces a “non-republican” attitude.

On X (formerly Twitter), LFI MP Charlotte Leduc gave her support to Belkhir Belhaddad. The elected official asks the President of the National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet “to firmly condemn and punish this behavior incompatible with the Republic”.

For his part, Belkhir Belhaddad indicates to our colleagues at Républicain Lorrain that he reserves the possibility of taking legal action.
