Despite the loss in the first leg, Paris Saint Germain (PSG) fans were hopeful. Because there are many examples of PSG turning around at home. But none of that happened. Borussia Dortmund made it to the finals of the Champions League by giving disappointment to PSG fans once again. They beat the French club 1-0 in the second leg.
Mats Hummels scored the only goal for Dortmund in the second leg of the semi-final on Tuesday (May 7) night. The German team won the first leg at home by the same margin. As a result, they took a 2-0 lead over the two legs and made it to the stage of the title fight after more than a decade.
Dortmund last played in the Champions League final in 2013. They won their only European Championship title in 1997. They defeated the Italian club Juventus in the service final. Dortmund will face Bayern or Real Madrid at Wembley on June 1 for their second title.
Both teams were on penalties at the start of the match at Parc des Princes. However, Dortmund made the first attack of the match. In the third minute Gianluigi Donnarumma easily blocked the head of Niklas Fuelkhug, the only goal scorer of the first leg. Gonzalo Ramos’ effort in the next minute was easily saved by Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.
After that in the first half, neither of the two teams could create any scoring chances. In the second minute of the second half, Ramos blocked Mbappe’s shot towards the goal. After three minutes, Dortmund scored. German defender Hummels scored a header from a teammate’s corner to give Dortmund the lead.
PSG began to counterattack after scoring a goal. However, in the 62nd minute, the team did not get a goal. Nuno Mendes’ sharp shot from about 25 yards hit the post. PSG got a free-kick just outside the box when Ousmane Dembele was fouled in the 65th minute. Marco Asensio’s shot is blocked by the defensive wall.
