BNP Secretary General Hopes for Success of Interim Government, Calls for Democracy Return
Nobel laureate Dr. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed hope that Muhammad Yunus will be successful in managing the interim government, calling him “a student and our nominee.” He added, “To whom we have given this responsibility on behalf of the entire nation.”
Dr. Alamgir expressed this hope on Thursday (August 8) during a meeting with Muhammad Yunus.
The BNP Secretary General identified the lack of democracy as the country’s biggest problem and stated that restoring it should be one of Yunus’s primary goals. “The faster he can bring back democracy, the more success he can achieve,” he said.
When asked about BNP’s expectations from the interim government, Alamgir listed three key points. First, establishing law and order and taking necessary actions. Second, holding early elections to restore democracy. Third, managing the economy.
Earlier in the day, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, DAB President Professor Harun Al Rashid, and Health Affairs Secretary Dr. Rafiqul Islam visited the Crippled Hospital in the capital. The visit followed the attack and shooting during the anti-discrimination movement, which left many people injured.
Alamgir stated that they had requested the hospital authorities to treat the injured, with both BNP doctors and students involved in the effort.
