The police chief of Indonesia’s East Java province, where a deadly stampede took place at a football stadium on Saturday, apologized on Tuesday.

“As regional police chief, I am concerned, saddened and at the same time I am sorry for the shortcomings in the security system,” Nico Afinta told a press conference in the city of Malang.

Six additional deaths were recorded after the deadly crowd movement in a stadium in Indonesia, one of the worst tragedies in the history of football, bringing the toll to 131 dead, told AFP a local official of the Health.

These six victims, who succumbed to their injuries, “have been returned to their families”, said Wiyanto Wijoyo, head of the Malang health agency, where the tragedy took place.
