In 1898, Emile Zola published the article “I blame”, which caused a serious social crisis in France. Dreyfus was a French army officer who was arrested for treason and sentenced to life imprisonment. A fair trial was hindered by several circumstances. the army, which was very influential, Dreyfus’ nationality, a Jew, and public opinion, which insisted on punishing the “traitor”.

E. Zola put justice in the first place in his article and consolidated a large part of the French public elite around him with his authority. There was a press, there was a barricaded society, but from a moment on, it demanded only one thing: justice. French society came out of the sharp social conflict stronger, more mature. In the end, Dreyfus was acquitted. This story was important for the healthy development of France and was a turning point in the development of civil society in the world.

Armenia, a crossroad of illegalities, in the absence of Emile Zola

Case of Armen Ashotyan

It is impossible to find a reasonable person in Armenia who does not know why Ashotyan is in prison. Everyone knows that he is in prison for his political views and activities. “I didn’t always like Ashotyan” is just an excuse to run away and be silent. Justice should be demanded for everyone, and personal preferences have nothing to do with it.

The case of Levon Kocharyan

L. Kocharyan’s case is a typical story of African and Latin American geshe regimes. A person is demonstratively attacked, the government wants to make something clear with it (everything is in front of your eyes), then they imprison him and accuse him of the complete opposite. In this way, the government makes 3 million people understand that I can treat any of you in this way. And it is a civil tragedy to use political views or this or that attitude towards President Kocharyan as an argument for justification.

General Khachaturov’s imprisonment

C. Khachaturov was in prison for a long time. Khachaturov is the face that did not cause dislike among any public stratum, and his demand for protection and justice could infect very wide strata. After all, this was the general that society was proud of during the Tavush battles. But the society remained silent. Until our society learns to demand justice, justice and develops to the point of fighting for it, we will live through many dark periods.

Case of Gagik Tsarukyan

C. Tsarukyan is being tried for giving 10,000 drams to some people during the elections.

When an entire nation knows and is perhaps a participant in the dubious process and results of all elections since 1995, is aware of the quality and mechanisms of the electoral system, against this backdrop, the law enforcement and operating political system stages a crime allegedly dedicated to electoral justice, imprisons Tsarukyan, and we pretend Is this normal?

Everyone: the prosecutor, the investigator, the judge, the government media, those who are on the PAP lists and then in the CP, the public, everyone knows that this is not serious, but everyone becomes a participant in a big lie. Has anyone set a problem to understand the deep defects of the electoral system? of course not. Has someone set a problem to understand what a citizen with the value system “we don’t need Karabakh, we don’t need Syunik” can do with a free choice, has someone set a problem to understand what needs to be done? that the citizen of RA does not kill the state with his free but unconscious vote. No one thinks about this. The problem is to make a person do bad things with some other motivation and imprison him on any occasion. everyone understands that, but this is also part of the “new normal”.

Mamikon Aslanyan’s case

A person is imprisoned for one simple reason. won the local government elections. Everyone knows this: the voters, the catchers, the people who love it and those who don’t like it, the people of Vanadzor. But we are not doing something simple: we are not demanding justice. We are not fighting to stop the torture of people.

Professor Armen Charchyan was imprisoned, Avetik Chalabyan was imprisoned, Narek Malyan is in prison, Hrant Bagratyan – criminal case, Garnik Isagulyan – imprisoned. Many activists are persecuted just for emotional posts on social networks, Tatevik Virabyan and other young people from Artsakh who are in extreme condition were arrested and persecuted. Criminal cases against many public figures, the case initiated on Avetik Ishkhanyan’s post is a vivid example.

Emile Zola’s Absent Appeal

The political authorities, the people in charge of the judicial system, and the general public, who are always happy with a person sitting in prison, with unfair trials and arbitrary detentions, have perverted ideas about justice. In such conditions, the absence of groundbreaking individuals like Emile Zola, who will impose correct values and correct thinking on societies with their authority, is acutely felt.

We have high quality lawyers who are also good citizens. But lawyers are left alone in front of the judicial gulag, and they often, naturally, lose.

Who can stop the blood demand of the regime that came from the street in 2018? only society. But the society needs to be sobered up and consolidated. How?

In reality, there are few options. We must remember that arresting innocent people, initiating false cases, judging, playing with destinies are live people: investigators, prosecutors, judges. The judicial guillotine is made up of people.

It is necessary to sober up those people and to sober up the general society.

Personally, I see the following power speech opportunity.

The appeal of the Catholicos of All Armenians and Aram I to the prosecutors, investigators, and judges that people cannot be unjustly condemned, people’s destinies cannot be played with. That it is a grave sin. And a call to the general public that there are enormous illegal activities in the country.

The joint call of influential Armenians of the world with the same emphasis.

My suggestions may not be the best, but doing something is better than being a bystander to the illegalities of the monstrous machine. All restraining institutions have been dismantled, so we have to find other, non-standard options.
