A minibus accident took place on Friday August 25 in Lot-et-Garonne, causing the death of a 12-year-old boy and injuring several others. The driver of the vehicle, a 26-year-old man, was taken into custody overnight from Friday to Saturday. He was indicted for manslaughter and involuntary injuries on Sunday evening, announced the public prosecutor, Olivier Naboulet.

“In addition to the prohibition to communicate with the victims and their relatives, as well as with the staff of the holiday center, he was also prohibited from driving any motorized land vehicle and from carrying out an activity of animation or supervision with children, ”said the public prosecutor in a press release issued Sunday evening.

The driver was brought before the Agen prosecutor’s office and placed under judicial control at the end of his police custody on Sunday evening. He was assisted by a lawyer and preferred to remain silent.

He had not consumed alcohol or narcotics

This “salaried driver” “unknown to the justice, gendarmerie and police services” according to the prosecutor, had been placed in police custody on the night of Friday to Saturday after being briefly hospitalized in Marmande, added the prosecutor of the Republic Olivier Naboulet. “The analyzes performed on the requisitions of the Agen prosecutor’s office reveal that he had not consumed alcohol in the hours preceding the driving of the vehicle, no more than narcotics”, specified the prosecutor on Saturday.

The accident took place Friday evening around 6:00 p.m. near Houeillès (South-West). The minibus went out of its trajectory, crossed the opposite lane and violently hit a concrete parapet before tipping into a ditch. It was carrying seven children aged 10 to 14 who were staying in a holiday center in Sauméjan, near Houeillès, and who were returning from an aquatic activity.

The balance sheet has not changed since Saturday morning: in addition to the deceased teenager, four are still in absolute emergency in Bordeaux and Toulouse. Two have already been able to find their families, said Mr. Naboulet.
