BOATS. A 33-year-old resident of Laives was reported by the Carabinieri as part of an operation to combat and repress the consumption and dealing of narcotics, specifically to protect the youngest. The man, a former clerk, was stopped near the Egna motorway exit of the Autobrennero, where the military had set up a checkpoint with the Laives Dog Unit. The 33-year-old was driving a car in which the military found a backpack containing half a pound of marijuana.
The drug was stuffed into a vacuum-packed cellophane bag, leading the Carabinieri to believe it was ready for delivery. Consequently, a search of the man’s home yielded additional substances. The clerk, who had a prior criminal record, was reported by the Carabinieri of Aldino, who work in the anti-drug unit alongside colleagues in the Bassa Atesina region. His position is currently under review by the judicial authorities.
A Summer of Increased Efforts
Since the beginning of summer, the Carabinieri under the Egna Company’s jurisdiction – covering the Bassa Atesina and beyond up to Caldaro - have conducted intensive operations to combat drug dealing and consumption. These efforts have resulted in the arrest and reporting of 11 individuals to the Bolzano Judicial Authority and the administrative reporting of 19 individuals for drug consumption to the Bolzano Provincial Government Commissioner.
Captain Seracini Speaks Out
The commander of the Egna Company, Captain Federico Seracini, summarized the company’s activities: “Our primary objective is to identify and apprehend those involved in drug dealing in the Bassa Atesina and Oltradige regions.”
