Drunk Driving Incident: Bulgarian Truck Driver Arrested in Netherlands
A Bulgarian truck driver was arrested Monday evening near weiwerd, Netherlands, after being found heavily intoxicated behind the wheel, prompting a swift response from local authorities and a temporary disruption to traffic. The arrest underscores the ongoing dangers of impaired driving and the vigilance required to ensure road safety.
Authorities were alerted to the driver’s erratic behavior by concerned motorists traveling on the N33 near Veendam. Reports indicated the driver was swerving across the road and repeatedly flashing his headlights, raising immediate red flags.
“the unusual driving pattern instantly set off alarm bells for several motorists,” a senior official stated.
In response to the reports, a police helicopter was deployed to locate and monitor the truck. Before the helicopter could reach the scene, officers successfully intercepted the vehicle on the N991, just prior to the Weiwerder Bridge.
The driver exhibited clear signs of incapacitation upon being approached. According to reports, “the man could barely stand on his legs” and was immediately taken into custody. He was transported to a local police station for a complete breath analysis.
The truck’s presence in the roadway caused a brief period of traffic disruptions, but a solution was quickly found. While an officer possessing the necessary commercial driver’s license was en route to move the vehicle, a passing motorist proactively offered assistance. With the help of this Good Samaritan, the truck was safely removed from the N-road and parked on a nearby street.
The subsequent breathalyzer test revealed a staggering blood alcohol content of 1.6 per mille, exceeding the legal limit for professional drivers by more than three times. The driver’s license has been immediately confiscated,and he faces considerable fines.
