Dubai Sets Record for International Travelers, Surpassing Pre-Covid Numbers

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – The UAE has achieved a remarkable feat in the number of international travelers, surpassing pre-Covid figures. The Dubai Economic and Leisure Tourism Department has released data showing that more passengers have landed in Dubai in the first six months of this year compared to the same period in 2019.

In the first half of 2019, Dubai welcomed 83.6 lakh (8.36 million) passengers from around the world. However, in the first half of 2023, this number increased to 85.5 lakh (8.55 million), indicating a significant recovery in the travel industry.

This performance has exceeded the expectations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). The WTO predicted that the number of passengers would rebound to 80-95 percent of pre-Covid levels.

These figures highlight Dubai’s continuous progress in becoming the most visited city in the world. The emirate’s travel sector has witnessed its best annual performance, further solidifying Dubai as a global tourism hotspot. Accompanying the increase in travelers, hotel stays have also seen a surge, with hotel occupancy averaging 78 percent in the first half of this year, the highest average worldwide.

Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, announced the achievement of these impressive figures. This accomplishment will strengthen Dubai’s status as a global tourism attraction and elevate its position as a hub for international trade and investment.

Moreover, the UAE has ranked second on the list of fastest-growing countries in terms of international travelers, according to a report by Skift Research. The report, which is based on 84 travel indexes, placed Austria in the first position. All the Gulf countries performed well in the list, demonstrating the rapid recovery of West Asia’s travel industry to pre-Covid levels.

As the challenges posed by the pandemic gradually subside, the UAE continues to attract visitors and solidify its position as a premier destination for tourists and investors alike. With its world-class infrastructure and unwavering commitment to tourism, Dubai is well on its way to becoming the go-to city for travelers from around the globe.
