Dubai: Dubai International Airport (DXB) has issued a warning against fake Facebook and Instagram profiles claiming to sell the lost luggage of travelers through the terminals. The airport authorities advised not to click on any suspicious notifications

∙How to report lost luggage?
If passengers cannot locate their baggage, they should file a report at the baggage service desk at the airport near the baggage claim area. Baggage can then be tracked on the reference number issued. A missing baggage report should include as much information as possible about the baggage. When the luggage is found, the passenger will be contacted to confirm the delivery time.

∙ Handling of baggage
Retaining its status as the world’s busiest airport for the ninth year in a row, Dubai handles record baggage through its three terminals every year. More than 82 million bags were handled through terminals in 2022, according to baggage handling firm Dinata. Handling luggage for over 100 airlines and millions of passengers traveling to over 250 destinations, Dinata ensures that the right items are loaded onto the right aircraft at the right time from Dubai International Airport.

∙ More than 1,300 dinata employees
More than 1,300 dinata employees work to deliver every bag on time during rush hour. DXB’s Baggage Handling System (BHS) transports baggage using innovative conveyor belts and lifts. 160 kilometers of baggage tracks wind around under the concourse floors of Terminal 3 alone. The process of routing a bag to its destination starts 180 minutes before the scheduled time of departure. Any bags checked-in prior to this are stored in T3’s 15,000-capacity automated early bag storage facility. The departing bag, carried on a yellow tray attached to the bag’s luggage tag for accurate tracking, will undergo security checks up to five times as it passes through the system. (ULD) is then progressed to a waiting container or unit loading device before being transported to the aircraft. Bags enter a safe and high-speed transfer tunnel as they travel through the BHS at up to 2.5 meters per second.

64 percent of passengers arriving at Terminal 3 in 2022 will be transit visa holders. Meanwhile, at Terminal 2, 45 percent of passengers are transit passengers. Preparation for transferring the bags to their destination begins six hours before the flight arrives at DXB. Dinata prepares to accept bags after knowing how many to transfer on each flight, size, weight and final destination.
