Duisburg – This restaurant opening is really busy …

Sven Nöthel (33) wanted to start again in a former cowshed in Duisburg, of all places. Where cattle and goats used to be fed, the star chef now provides culinary delights for two-legged guests. The Swedish local name “mod” (German: courage) is to be taken literally …

In the middle of the high phase of the corona pandemic, Nöthel decided to set up his own business in October 2020, completely rebuilt the ex-cowshed, and invested almost 250,000 euros in his dream with his partners.

How crazy do you have to be for that? Nöthel laughs and says: “It doesn’t work without courage! That’s why the name was quickly clear … “

The celebrity chef personally helped with the renovation. “We had to core everything, the renovation took over a year.” The result: a chic ambience, yet down-to-earth. In the wine cellar, for example, rustic beams are reminiscent of the former homestead. Where there was once a stable box, a cozy lounge now invites you to relax.

While cooking, guests can look directly over the shoulder of the star chef, the open kitchen is directly connected to the dining room. And how do you cook? Nöthel: “French cuisine with a Scandinavian touch. Lots of fish, fresh herbs, high quality products. We want to be brave, sometimes surprise, for example with a calf’s brain. “

Surprise as a recipe for success: Despite regulations due to the corona pandemic (the 3-G rule applies), the shop is booming. Nöthel: “We’re literally overrun right now!” Guests can choose between à la carte or menu (4-8 courses, from 75 euros) on 76 seats, and Nöthel also offers cooking courses.
