Jakarta Home Damaged in Gas Tube Explosion, Inquiry Underway
A gas tube explosion ripped through a home in West Jakarta on Thursday, june 6, 2024, causing significant damage and a minor injury to a domestic worker.Authorities are currently investigating the incident,focusing on a potential leak in the gas regulator hose.
The explosion occurred at approximately 6:00 AM local time in the Kuri Kosami district, specifically in Block E2. West Jakarta police chief Kompol Hasoloan Situmorang confirmed that his unit responded to the scene and initiated an investigation.
According to reports, a housekeeper, identified only by the initial of her name as “I,” was preparing to wash dishes after finishing cooking, with the stove reportedly turned off. Suddenly,an explosion erupted from beneath the dishwashing area. “Based on the homeowner’s account, the cause is believed to be a loose gas regulator hose and a disconnect,” Kompol Hasoloan Situmorang stated after confirming the details with VOI on Friday, June 7.
The force of the blast was substantial, resulting in widespread destruction within the kitchen. Almost all appliances and items in the immediate area were destroyed or significantly damaged. The housekeeper, “I,” was thrown outward due to the intensity of the explosion, sustaining a minor leg injury.
“The kitchen appliance broke down and made a mess,” a senior official stated.
The incident quickly spread on social media platforms, with residents sharing videos on WhatsApp groups as a cautionary tale. Authorities are urging residents to regularly inspect their gas connections and appliances to prevent similar incidents.
The case remains under investigation by Chenkare Police. As of this reporting, no further details have been released regarding potential safety violations or preventative measures.
