British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is leaving for Poland today, where he will announce a further 500 million British pounds ($617 million) in military aid and the supply of more ammunition to Ukraine, which faces an “existential threat”, he said in statement the office of the British leader, quoted by France Press.
Sunak will meet his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk, as well as NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, to discuss the war in Ukraine and broader European security, BTA reported.
The visit comes at a time when Kiev is asking its allies to increase their military aid, in particular by supplying ammunition, which is essential to repel Russian attacks.
After long and difficult negotiations, the US House of Representatives voted on Saturday a massive $61 billion military aid package for Kiev.
“Defending Ukraine from Russia’s brutal ambitions is vital for our security and for all of Europe,” Sunak said in a statement.
If Putin wins “this war of aggression, he will not stop at the border with Poland”, warned the British Prime Minister.
Sunak will announce from Poland a “significant increase” in Britain’s support for Ukraine, including additional military aid worth £500m and “the largest ever delivery of vital military equipment”.
The aid will be used “for the rapid provision of ammunition” that Ukraine urgently needs, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles, which will be purchased from Britain, as well as their technical support.
The equipment to be sent to Ukraine includes 60 naval vessels, more than 1,600 missiles, specifically for air defense, as well as Storm Shadow cruise missiles. The military aid package will also include almost four million rounds of small arms ammunition.
During his visit to Poland, Sunak will discuss the “deepening” of bilateral relations between London and Warsaw with Donald Tusk. The British Prime Minister will then meet German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin.
