DÜSSELDORF, Germany – Flag football’s global showcase is heading to Germany. Düsseldorf will host the 2026 IFAF Flag Football World Championships, the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) announced Thursday, July 31.

This marks the 12th iteration of the biannual event, scheduled for August 13-16, 2026. It will take place at Düsseldorf’s dedicated flag football field, a facility unveiled earlier this year.

Pierre Trochet, President of IFAF, expressed excitement, calling it a “game-changing edition” and a “landmark moment.” He highlighted Düsseldorf’s existing connection to American football and its enthusiastic fan base as key factors in the selection.

An estimated 16 men’s and women’s teams are expected to compete. These teams will earn their spots through continental qualifiers held throughout 2025.

The 2026 championships will also serve as a crucial stepping stone for nations aiming to qualify for the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028. Flag football is set to make its Olympic debut in Los Angeles.
