Dylan Van Baarle (Jumbo-Visma) won the 78th edition of Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, designed over 207.3 kilometers between Ghent y nine. The Dutchman shone in his debut with the ‘bees’ and after being in the right cut, he resolved with strength and intelligence.

On a nervous day, with some falls, one of the most beautiful times of the season began: spring. The classic ones, those that propose different exercises due to their routes and tactical factors, always promise entertaining battles and Omloop would fulfill the premise.

With 40 km to go, the first moves were made with a cut in which Christophe Laporte (TJV), Tom Pidcock (IGD), Tim Wellens (UAD), Arnaud de Lie (LTD) or Stefan Kung entered. The 30″ gap over the larger group led to some counterattacks from Jasper Stuyven (TFS) or Kevin Geniets (GFC) to no avail.

The attacking group, selected by another series of moves, had a good cooperation with the presence of Jonathan Milan (TBV) -the most insistent-, Florian Veermersch (LTD), Dylan Van Baarle (TJV) and Mathis Le Berre (ARK). These last two would distance themselves in the adventure between Berendries and Vossenhol, leaving as the only opposition a peloton where Bahrain insisted on closing the gap.

With barely 20″ separating them, everyone knew that the key point to unbalance the scales was Kapelmuur. The sacred wall saw a brilliant Van Baarle get rid of Le Berre and start his solo journey, as well as Tim Wellens (UAD) who destroyed the peloton and showing off the brilliant form with which he has started the course, being that rider that could complicate things for the Dutchman.

The Belgian was accompanied by Matej Mohoric (TBV) -who held him the best on the cobblestones-, an impressive Arnaud de Lie (LTD) and Christophe Laporte (TJV), who played a perfect role as he could be that element that could hinder the pursuit of Your partner. And yes, that was reflected because although they did not give up ground with Dylan, they did not cut him either, they were 30″ stable that on top of that they had them close to the larger group that on the straights they had them in sight.

That settled the contest that delivered Van Baarle’s first victory in his new colors and right on the day of his Jumbo debut. He confirms that it is a profitable signing for both and that it will bring a glorious path for both parties.
