Earth Hour 2022: Join the Global Movement to Save Our Planet!

by time news

– By turning off Earth Hour, we are all sending an important message. We must stop the climate crisis and the loss of biodiversity before it is too late. Together we are the world’s chance, says Gustaf Lind, Secretary General WWF.

Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney and every year Earth Hour engages almost a billion people globally, but also a large number of cities and companies. The aim is to switch off for an hour to send a signal to all decision-makers to start acting strongly for a sustainable planet.

This year is extinguished famous buildings and places around the country to show commitment to the planet, people and the climate. From Skistar’s slopes in the north, the Gothenburg Opera in the west, the Öresund Bridge in the south to Stockholm Castle.

Internationally, several iconic buildings such as the Sydney Opera House, the Empire State Building, the Shah Faisal Mosque in Pakistan and the Maputo Katembe Bridge in Mozambique are extinguishing.

Men Earth Hour is so much more than just turning off the lights. Among other things, H&M and Ikea have invited their employees all over the world to participate in WWF’s tips walk together with the Korpen Swedish Sports Association during Earth Hour to learn more about the environment, climate and biodiversity, while getting exercise and getting out into nature.

WWF also highlights the importance of sustainable food through, among other things, a collaboration with chef Jessie Sommarström.

– This hour is so much more important than just cozy togetherness. It is a global action and a manifestation that must become an awakening for those in power all over the earth. We must act for the planet now. And for the sake of future generations. It’s actually about what we want to leave as a legacy to our children and grandchildren, says Cecilia Stenström, project manager for Earth Hour at WWF.

The theme for this year’s Earth Hour is “Together we are the world’s chance”.
