Eucobat, an association that brings together the most important collective battery recycling systems in Europe, has awarded the Spanish system Ecopilas the Director of the working group for the analysis of European regulations about this activity. To this end, it has appointed Patricia Sánchez Aedo responsible for it.

This group is of special relevance within the European employers’ association since it will be in charge of analyze the implications of the imminent entry into force of the new Community regulation on environmental management of these residues. In general terms, this group is in charge of study the regulations that affects the activity of Eucobat members and to advise them on their practical application.

In addition, it is responsible for agreeing positions or interpretations on new legislation and developing studies for, for example, propose calculation methodologies appropriate to achieve the collection targets obligatory.

The presidency of this group has fallen to Patricia Sánchez Aedo, senior operations technician at Recyclia, the Ecopilas administrator. Sánchez has more than 18 years of experience in collective management systems for electronic devices and batteries and is currently responsible for the electric mobility sector at Ecopilas.

In this regard, it should be noted that the new community regulation incorporates the obligation to sustainably manage the batteries of electric and hybrid vehiclesas well as light means of transport (bicycles, motorcycles or electric scooters) marketed in the European Union.

According to Patricia Sánchez Aedo, “The Regulation approved by the European Council on July 10 is much more ambitious than the Directive it replaces, since it not only regulates waste management, but also the entire value chain of batteries, that is, ecodesign, commercialization , components, labeling and end of life, including not only recycling, but also its second life or reuse”.

Patricia Sánchez Aedo has a degree in Environmental Sciences from the Autonomous University of Madrid and an Executive MBA from the School of Industrial Organization of Madrid. In 2005, she joined Recyclia, an entity in which she has specialized in electronic waste management and batteries thanks to her work in the Operations department of the Ecoasimelec and Ecofimática collective systems.

He has actively participated in different Eucobat working groups since the foundation of the entity in 2012, with Ecopilas among its founding partners. Currently, she is a member of Recyclia’s R + D + i Projects Unit, recently created to manage projects with European or national funding that allow optimizing the recycling processes of electronic devices and batteries.
