Ed Sheeran: Setlist Vote – Australia & NZ Tour

Auckland, February 23, 2024 — Ed Sheeran is redefining the concert experience, giving fans unprecedented control over his setlist. The British singer-songwriter launched his “Loop Tour” in Auckland, New Zealand, introducing a novel “Fan Suggestions” segment where the audience directly influences the songs performed each night.

A New Stage for Fan Interaction

Sheeran’s “Loop Tour” empowers concertgoers to request songs in real-time, creating a uniquely collaborative performance.

What makes this tour different? Sheeran is literally taking requests, learning or rearranging songs on the spot based on fan votes sent via text message during the show.

During the opening night at Go Media Stadium, Sheeran revealed the interactive element. Before the performance began, a telephone number was displayed on the stadium’s large screens, inviting attendees to text their song requests. A real-time counting system then selected the five most popular choices, which Sheeran performed live.

Setlist Surprises and Deep Cuts

The inaugural show featured a diverse mix of Sheeran’s hits and rarities. Fans voted for a selection that included the seldom-played “Little Bird”, which hadn’t been performed since 2021, and ““Sofa”, absent from live shows since 2013. Beloved ballads like ““Tenerife Sea”,” “Supermarket Flowers”,” and “Give Me Love”” also made the cut.

The concert wasn’t solely acoustic. Irish folk band Vivid joined Sheeran onstage for a lively segment featuring songs like “Galway Girl”” and “Nancy Mulligan”.”

A Tour on Par with the Biggest Stars

The “Loop Tour” is poised to be a major musical event in the Oceania region. Ticketek reports that over three million tickets have already been sold for the New Zealand and Australian legs of the tour, placing it in direct competition with the world tours of artists like Taylor Swift and Coldplay.

Blending New and Classic Hits

The core setlist features tracks from Sheeran’s latest album, Play, including “Sapphire,” “dear,” and “Old Phone.” These newer songs are interspersed with his globally recognized hits such as “Shape of You,” “Perfect,” “Thinking Out Loud,” and “Bad Habits.”

Following Auckland, the tour will visit Wellington, Perth, Sydney, and Melbourne, culminating in Adelaide in March. Special guests accompanying Sheeran on select dates include Vance Joy, Mia Wray, and the band BIIRD.
