Negotiations to achieve a truce between the parties to the conflict in the Gaza Strip are difficult, with each participant trying to extract the greatest benefit for themselves. This was stated by Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

“Dialogue [по урегулированию ситуации в Газе] It’s going difficult, each side is trying to achieve the maximum possible benefit,” said the head of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, as quoted by the Al-Qahira Al-Ikhbariya TV channel.

He noted in this regard that Egypt “continues intensive contacts to develop a formula that will allow us to establish a ceasefire in the sector.” Speaking at a joint press conference in Cairo with Bulgarian Foreign Minister Maria Gabriel, Shoukry stressed that his country “continues intensive work to deliver the maximum possible amount of humanitarian aid to the residents of Gaza.”

Currently, consultations are being held in Cairo on the implementation of the international initiative for a settlement in Gaza, developed by the mediators at the negotiations in Paris. On February 8, a delegation of the Palestinian Hamas movement, headed by the deputy head of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Khalil al-Hayya, arrived in Cairo. The movement’s statement on this issue said that representatives of the movement came to Cairo to “complete negotiations related to the ceasefire [в Газе]”Later, an Israeli delegation, which included representatives of the country’s security services, arrived in Cairo “to discuss a deal to exchange” hostages for Palestinian prisoners.

On February 7, Egypt and Qatar initiated a new round of dialogue to achieve calm in the Gaza Strip and an agreement to exchange hostages in the hands of radicals in the strip for Palestinians imprisoned in Israeli prisons. Cairo and Doha called for a new round of negotiations on February 8 “to achieve calm in Gaza and agreements on the exchange of hostages for Palestinian prisoners.” At the same time, Egypt called on all parties, both directly involved in the conflict in Gaza and those participating in the settlement process, to “show the necessary flexibility” in order to achieve stability in the Palestinian enclave.
