(ANSA) – TRIESTE, APR 30 – The young patients are aged between two and 16; initially treated in Gaza and then in Egypt, some had their arms or legs amputated, some would require a bone marrow transplant, others finally have oncological pathologies not linked to the ongoing conflict.
Among the people who arrived in Trieste there is also a young pregnant woman who is about to give birth, bringing the number of children to nine.
The children with amputations, once stable, will be welcomed by nuns in Udine and will continue checks at Burlo until they can go to Budrio in Emilia Romagna to be hosted in a center specialized in prosthetics and rehabilitation.
The other children will be welcomed by families already previously involved in welcoming Ukrainian children and their families.
The doctor Andolina reported to Il Piccolo that a month has passed since the negotiations began: “In this time we have lost a patient, a family has backed out because they were not allowed to let out the older brother of the child at risk of life because at 17 he could have been a fighter.” “The little boy in particular had already received a transplant in Israel – continues the doctor – but it hadn’t worked. Everyone had received treatment in the Jewish State, the medical community is different from the political class”, specifies Andolina. (HANDLE).
