But others catch pike weighing one, two or three kilos. And here are such fish! Catfish, pike are terrible.
The very beginning like everyone else. It all started with the Nemunėlis River and a small pike. My father and I used to drive and catch pike. Boats started little by little, they improved over time until they were perfect. Now both the boat and the equipment are amazing.
But you don’t write anywhere in which lake you caught it, what is the weight of the fish. Are you not interested in how it is here? Or don’t you give out your seats?

Have your own lake?
Not one. I go everywhere a lot. In the districts of Rokiškis, Zarasai, Utena, Anykščiai. Next time I will also reach Vilnius, Kaunas. Even Latvia is not something very foreign. I drive a lot, spend a lot of time. A big deal. Because in order to catch bigger fish, you need to have a good tackle. Understand how it behaves, how to catch it, what bait to use, how to serve it. And weighing is a thing that has survived to this day. Kilograms are no longer relevant. The weighing is probably left over from previous generations. It is easier to measure the length of the fish. Weight as weight…
But there are record fish. 15 and 18 kilograms are slightly different.
After measuring in centimeters, if it is bigger than what was caught before, then I often weigh it. For example, the largest catfish caught today is 168 cm. I weighed it – it was 28 kg. The last one, the photo of which you probably saw, was 158 cm. He remained unweighted. I just didn’t see the point. And by the way, I don’t only catch catfish. They started from last year. Last year I learned how to catch them, and this year I have the goal of catching a two-meter catfish. Then, I said, maybe I’ll calm down a little with them.
And where do the biggest catfish grow?
And in the same Sarts there are considerable catfish, but it is very difficult to catch them there. There are really many and big catfish in Daugava. And in Lithuania, there are many lakes around Molėti and Utena, where there are also a lot of catfish. Practically, wherever you put your finger, you will find it. And the biggest one to date was caught in the vicinity of Utena.
And what is your biggest pike?
115 centimeters. I wouldn’t say it’s very big. There is still room for improvement. 120 cm is still very realistic. Of course, there are even bigger ones. They don’t always work. Sometimes someone gets into a boat and says, “See, I didn’t think it could hold.” It has been so. To others from the country, it seems that he has the equipment, all the tools, it is already impossible not to catch fish. It is possible. It’s not like you go and always catch something. I’m not saying that it doesn’t help, it helps a lot, but a lot depends on the fish itself. Will she want to feed or not. Until you learn and buy the whole system of modern fishing, you still have to know the behavior of each fish… Sometimes, people ask me for a boat and even with all the equipment they can’t do anything – they don’t catch. You have to give them some primer on how to do it. There are really many nuances, and for those who sit down for the first time, everything seems like science fiction.
Sometimes, I participate in competitions. Last year, I won first place in the Lithuanian Pike League. This year I am also participating, the competition is not over yet, so far I am in fourth place. Last year I participated in many “Spiningavimas.lt” competitions, there was such a curious case, I participated almost by accident and won the first place. We caught a lot of pike and I caught two more catfish. It rang out a little – some unknown person, sneaking out of the village, climbs onto the platform.
Anyway, you will never sit with a fishing rod again?
I haven’t had a float this year yet. Ah, I had to go to my father-in-law’s house maybe twice. Anyway, I never avoided both the float and the bottom. At one time I really liked catching bream. Spinning seems simpler now. Karshis require a lot of preparation: boil the grains, drink them two days before, and only then catch them. And with spinning, you left, swam and caught immediately.
They say you go fishing with your wife?
Yes, sometimes we go fishing. She may sunbathe and read a book more, but she has her own spinning. I catch with different rods and reels, but she also has such a spinner. No matter how much you go out to read a book, sometimes you want to catch a pike. This year was also such a strange story. I had a vacation and I fished maybe three nights in a row. On the fourth night, I say, I won’t go anywhere anymore, I need to rest, but my wife says: maybe we’ll go, I want to go fishing with you at night. And there was no more excuse not to go. We left, they say, I won’t fish, but I’ll just stay, see how everything looks at night. He was sitting in a boat, he decided to catch something. And pulled out about a subway pike.
