Widzew Łódź Shatters Polish Transfer Record with Osman Bukari Signing

Widzew Łódź has made a statement of intent, securing winger Osman Bukari from Austin FC in a deal reportedly worth approximately EUR 5 million – a potential record for the PKO Ekstraklasa. The transfer, confirmed Friday, marks the Łódź club’s third addition during the winter transfer window, alongside Christopher Cheng and Lukas Lerager.

The acquisition of the 19-time Ghana international represents a significant investment for Widzew and signals their ambition to compete at the highest level of Polish football. Bukari has signed a long-term contract extending through June 30, 2030.

Return to European Football Drives Bukari’s Decision

Bukari expressed his enthusiasm for the move, stating, “I wanted to return to Europe and continue my career here. What convinced me to transfer was a conversation about what Widzew was looking for and what kind of player they wanted to acquire. I am happy to be in Łódź.”

The player arrives with a strong track record, having most recently played for Austin FC in the 2025 season, where he registered 5 goals and 6 assists in 39 matches. Prior to his time in the United States, Bukari excelled with Red Star Belgrade, scoring 7 goals and providing 5 assists in 24 league appearances during the 2023/24 season.

Widzew Aims for European Competition

Club officials are confident Bukari’s arrival will bolster their attacking options and propel them towards their goals. A senior official emphasized the player’s qualities, stating, “He is a player with a lot of quality that will help the team achieve its goals. These do not change – we want to compete with the best and, over time, permanently fight for the best places in the league and the opportunity to play in Europe.”

The official highlighted Bukari’s key attributes, noting, “His most important features are creativity, speed, and creating an advantage in the third zone of the field – this is what we lacked in the autumn round.” They also acknowledged the widespread interest in the player, adding, “It is no secret that a player of this level was watched by many clubs from all over Europe, including us.”

Strategic Support Enables Landmark Transfer

The successful pursuit of Bukari was facilitated by key support within the club. A representative of the management board for sports explained, “Thanks to the support of Robert Dobrzycki, we can reach for players from beyond the current reach of Polish clubs.”

Crucially, the transfer also received the backing of head coach Jovićević, who sought players aligned with his tactical vision. “The approval of coach Jovićević was also very important, because we want to select players according to the playing model preferred by the coach,” the representative added.

Widzew Łódź’s bold move for Osman Bukari demonstrates a clear commitment to elevating the club’s profile and challenging for silverware in the years to come.
