In an undeserved and unfair scene for Cubans, elderly people and disabled children have been forced to wait for two days under the scorching sun in a queue at the Guanabacoa post office, awaiting the arrival of social assistance money.

The complaint published on social networks was supported by a photograph in which people are seen under the sun waiting and in a vulnerable situation.

Netizens immediately commented, rejecting the situation and assuring that some passed by the place, and even helped some children with water and food.

“And if the money they are going to receive will solve something for them, maybe it would be worth it, but when they get paid they will still be in the same situation because it won’t be enough for them at all,” lamented a witness.

Desperation has reached such a level that some Cubans have raised the idea of protesting in the streets. However, going out to demonstrate faces a harsh reality, as one resident pointed out: “From 30 years up to life in prison for the crime of ‘sedition’.”

The situation, far from being an isolated case, is a reflection of a broader crisis in the country. “Since they said that the banks belong to the common people, money has been lost in the banks… that is throughout the country,” wrote a Cuban on social networks.

The affected people urgently need this money to satisfy basic needs such as food, even if it is only enough to eat for two days, because the amount is insufficient amid the inflation in the country.

This only highlights the urgency of an effective response from the communist authorities who are not concerned with meeting the needs of the citizens.
