Electric cars at 100 euros per month: how to benefit from the system launched this Friday

Something promised, something due. The presidential promise of social leasing, that is to say an electric vehicle, by subscription, at 100 euros per month, is coming to fruition… “finally”, add some, as the project has seemed, since its launch, to on alternating current.

Emmanuel Macron formalized the launch of the system in a video posted online this Thursday, December 14 at 11:30 a.m. The government website which will allow French people to know if they are eligible, by providing their reference tax income and the number of kilometers they travel each year, will open this Friday. “The name of the platform will be mon-leasing-electrique.gouv.fr, details the Head of State in his intervention. It’s a bit long, I agree with you, but it’s displayed below the screen. »

Social leasing will concern households whose reference tax income per share does not exceed the bar of 15,400 euros, or around 3,300 euros net per month for a couple with one child. A single person on minimum wage, for example, is also eligible.

First cars available in January

It is on this government site that you will need to register and where you will be able to consult the list of accessible vehicles. But, in the event of a positive response, it is the network of rental companies which will then be called upon to distribute them. It is with them that the signatories will conclude their contract. The first cars will be available from January, so the lucky ones should be able to drive them within the days following their registration. The other vehicles will arrive gradually.

“Heavy rollers”, initially, will be favored. Those who travel more than 15,000 km per year or live more than 15 km from their place of work will be given priority. For the rest, the rule is first come, first served.

Among the vehicles concerned are the new Citroën e-C3, the electric Fiat 500 and the Twingo e-Tech. Some small models will be offered for less than 100 euros per month, up to 90 euros per month for example; on the other hand, others will climb beyond the promise of 100 euros per month.

” You have to be patient “

Not to mention… the price of insurance, which is not taken into account, and risks increasing the final bill, possibly by several dozen euros. “Bad” drivers, those whose penalties pile up due to repeated accidents, should in particular pay the price. “Classic, insurance never appears in the price when you buy a car at a dealership,” people around Emmanuel Macron retort.

The first-come-first-served rule could also cause disappointment, as in 2023, registrations of electric vehicles have crossed the 20% mark for the first time. Social leasing, next year, will “only” concern 20,000 vehicles, while the targeted public (the first five deciles, or 50% of the population) buys around 100,000 vehicles each year.

“We must be patient”, we retort, in essence, from the ministries concerned, Transport or Ecological and Energy Transition. The social leasing system is scheduled to gain momentum. From 2025, 40,000 vehicles should be offered in this way.
