Electric two-wheeler sales to grow 78% by 2030: RedSeer Report | Dinamalar

With manufacturers grappling with persistent fires, India’s electric two-wheeler sales could increase by 78 percent by 2030 with government support, technology and consumer adoption, says a new study.

Compared to petrol, diesel and gas vehicles known as ICE vehicles, the cost of electric two-wheelers is 20 to 70 percent less. And as usage increases, costs will decrease and savings will increase, according to consulting firm RedSeer.

In particular, the reason why customers choose electric two-wheelers is the amount of money they spend for it, along with the features including a better display. Environmental friendliness and quick turnaround are other reasons.

Mukesh Kumar, manager of Redseer, said that due to less maintenance and lower fuel costs, businesses are exploring electric two-wheelers for their business operations. While this is a strong feature, it is not without challenges. Long charging time and poor charging infrastructure are painful for users and non-users.

However, due to government incentives and growth in this segment, many start-ups in collaboration with the government are developing better charging infrastructure in India, the report said.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said in Barley that the future is very promising for electric two-wheelers. In response to a question, a notice has been sent to all the electric two-wheeler companies asking for an explanation regarding the vehicles catching fire due to battery failure. The next steps will be taken based on the responses received from the electric vehicle manufacturers,” he said.

Earlier, Minister of State for Heavy Industries Krishan Pal Gurjar said in Parli., 3 manufacturing companies recalled a total of 6,656 electric two-wheelers in April this year. Okinawa recalled 3,215 units on April 16, Pure 2,000 units on April 21 and Ola Electric 1,441 units on April 23.

As mentioned in Section 126 of the Central Motor Vehicles Act, 1989, testing of components for electric two-wheelers will be carried out in a proper manner,” he said.

It is to be noted that the committee set up by the government to formulate new guidelines for electric vehicles is expected to submit its report to the central government soon.
