A distinguished honor awaits Arizona Gymnastics alumna Elena Deets, who will join 18 former GymCats immortalized at McKale Center with her induction into the Ring of Honor next year. The proclamation was made unexpectedly last week during an arizona practice, when Athletic Director Desiree Reed-Francois revealed the news to Deets, who believed she was filming a video.
A Career Defined by Excellence
Deets earned this prestigious recognition through consistent high-level performance, culminating in the 2025 Big 12 co-Specialist of the Year award. This accolade followed three selections as Specialist of the Week during the 2025 season, and her inclusion on the 2025 All-Big 12 Balance Beam team.
Throughout her five-year career as a GymCat, Deets competed on balance beam, uneven parallel bars, and floor exercise.She consistently achieved high scores,with a career best of 9.925 on both bars and floor exercise. While the elusive perfect 10 remained just out of reach,Deets achieved a career-high 9.975 on the balance beam.

Deets demonstrated remarkable consistency and dedication to the program, appearing in all 14 meets during both her fifth year (2025) and senior year (2024). Her commitment was evident throughout her collegiate career, with appearances in 10 meets as a junior (2023), 12 as a sophomore (2022), and nine as a freshman (2021).
The Arizona Gymnastics team also experienced success during Deets’ tenure,finishing second in the Big 12 in both the regular season and the conference championship in 2025,trailing only Utah. The GymCats achieved a national ranking of 21st and advanced to the Regional Finals – a feat comparable to the “Sweet Sixteen” in basketball – marking thier first appearance in the postseason since the format changed in 2019.
