Eleven Romanian citizens and their family members were evacuated from the Gaza Strip on Monday with the efforts of the Inter-Institutional Crisis Unit, through the Romanian Embassy in Cairo and the Romanian Representation in Ramallah, Agerpress Agency reported, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania.

Romanian citizens and their family members were evacuated from the Gaza Strip and arrived in Egypt through the Rafah border crossing. They were taken over by the mobile consular team of the Romanian Embassy in Egypt, which accompanied them to Cairo, from where they will be transported by plane to Romania in the next period, BTA reports.

To date, 313 Romanian citizens and their family members have been evacuated from the Gaza Strip.

Most of the Gaza Strip is in ruins after Israel launched an air and ground offensive following an attack by militants from the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas in southern Israel on October 7. About 1,200 people died then, most of them civilians, according to Israeli figures. The Palestinian Ministry of Health in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip says the death toll from the ensuing Israeli offensive now exceeds 31,000. Nearly 74,000 were injured.

The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in contact with the Israeli and Egyptian authorities in order to facilitate the evacuation of other Romanian citizens and their family members in case of additional requests, depending on the development of the situation on the ground and the agreement of the parties involved.
