“I won a medal in the 81 kg weight category. I had glasses.”
İdman.biz reports that this was stated by judoist of the Azerbaijani national team Elzhan Hajiyev (90 kg), who was a guest of the “İdman Bizdə” program.
The European champion said that he regrets changing the weight category:
“Although there was such a strong judoka as Said Mollai in the 81 kg weight category, I was confident in myself. I believed that I would go to the Olympic Games before him. For me the problem was my weight. Due to age-related development, I noticed that my weight increased to 92-93 kg. After that it was very difficult to get down to 81 kg. At the last tournament I felt bad. My trainers and I decided that I needed to go up to 90 kg. I did this out of necessity. Regret. I feel very comfortable at my current weight.”
E. Gadzhiev also voiced his expectations from the World Cup:
“If I became the European champion, then I can become the world champion. Nothing is out of reach. Excluding Asian countries, there will be those competitors. I have a lot of faith in myself. It’s not just me, there are a lot of guys on our team who will perform well. I hope we will have many medals at the World Championships.”
Note that the World Championship will be held on May 19-24 in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE.
