Emiliano Vecchio Abandons Unión Española Over Contractual Disputes, Returns to Argentina

A promising move to Chilean football has fallen apart as veteran midfielder Emiliano Vecchio has terminated his agreement with Unión Española, citing unfulfilled contractual obligations. The Argentine player and his wife publicly accused the club of failing to honor their commitments, prompting Vecchio’s decision to return to his homeland.

The situation unfolded rapidly this week, with both Vecchio and his wife, Virginia Tissera, alleging a series of breaches of contract by the Independencia-based club. According to Vecchio, his requests were modest, focusing on essential comforts for a relocation.

“I only limited myself to asking for basic things to be comfortable: the house, the transfer and some other things that the club promised to fulfill,” Vecchio told TyC Sports. He further revealed the disappointing reality upon arrival, stating, “When I arrived, I did not find the best outlook. Unfortunately, the club did not comply with anything we had agreed upon. I even had to pay for the tickets.”

Motivated by these circumstances, Vecchio prioritized his family’s well-being and opted to return to Argentina. “I have to respond to my wife, my children and the best decision was to return home,” he stated.

Vecchio didn’t shy away from expressing his disappointment with the club’s management, taking to Instagram to share a message aimed at Unión Española fans. He posted an image with the slogan “They do not respect idols,” alongside a photo featuring Hispanic manager Sabino Aguad.

“Unión Española is its history… Its people, its stadium and every rag hanging in the games, not who manages it today. Strength. Everything passes,” the 37-year-old midfielder wrote. Reports indicate Vecchio is now being considered by San Lorenzo de Almagro, sparking renewed interest in his potential return to Argentine football.

The fallout from this situation raises questions about the stability and reliability of contractual agreements within Primera B. While the club has yet to issue a formal response, the incident serves as a cautionary tale for players considering moves to the league.
