Palakkad: The CPM has elected EN Sureshbabu (52), a member of the current secretariat and a native of Perumatty Kalyanapet, as the Palakkad district secretary. The decision was taken in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Former MLA KS Saleekha has been elected as a woman member of the district secretariat.
The other new members of the secretariat are DYFI district secretary TM Sasi, Malampuzha MLA A Prabhakaran, former MP S Ajayakumar and N Unnikrishnan. Current District Secretary CK Rajendran, P Mammikutty, PK Sasi, V Chenthamarakshan and VK Chandran are also members. The secretariat has 11 members, including the district secretary. CK Rajendran, who has been in office for three terms, is currently the district secretary.
Secretariat members TN Kandamuthan and TK Narayanadas resigned. A 44-member district committee was also elected. Kongad MLA K Shanthakumari, who was out of the contest at the Kuzhalmandam area conference, and Theota district panchayat president K Binumel were included in the district committee for the Puthussery area committee meeting. It was discussed at the district assembly that both were deliberately tortured.
A public meeting will be held at Kottamaidan at 5 pm as the concluding function of the district conference. The Chief Minister will inaugurate. The conference will be shown live on the big screen on all local committees except Palakkad and surrounding areas. Central Committee members A. Vijayaraghavan, EP Jayarajan, AK Balan, MC Josephine, KK Shailaja, Elamaram Kareem, K Radhakrishnan and State Secretariat member Baby John are also participating in the three – day conference.
