More than 420,000 cases of dengue accumulated so far in 2024 in Argentina, an outbreak with a greater flow of infections in the central region of the country, while it continued decreasing the rate of spread of the diseasewhile the deceased in the season they added more than 300.
The Ministry of Health indicated through its National Epidemiological Bulletin (BEN) that in the first 17 weeks of the year, 420,867 cases of dengue were reported, 96.08 percent of the 438,010 infections registered in the season, which began in the Week Epidemiological 31 of 2023 (SE31/23).
The BEN indicated that the highest number of cases corresponds to the Center region (62.2 percent), followed by the Northwest region (21.2 percent) and Northeast (14.3 percent), while the West and South have the smallest number and together they contribute the equivalent of 2.3 percent in the country.

The disease presents indigenous viral circulation in 19 of the 24 districts into which the country is divided, while the peak of cases throughout 2024 took place in week 12when they reported 56,398 contagious.
From that peak on, cases in the different regions with viral circulation (northeast, northwest and center of the country) during April ranged between 2% and 66%, according to official estimates, but with differences.

The BEN added that from SE31/23 to SE17/24, 301 deaths from dengue were also recorded, of which 291 correspond to 2024.

The median age of the deceased is 49 years, with fatalities in 18 of the country’s 24 jurisdictions.
“The deceased cases were recorded in all age groups, with the highest mortality rate being those over 80 years of age,” indicated the BEN, which added that the most frequent signs and symptoms among the deceased with complete clinical information were “fever, headache, myalgias and arthralgias, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain.
The Ministry of Health has urged the population to reinforce care to prevent diseases transmitted by mosquitoes “Temples of the Egyptians“.
These measures include eliminating possible mosquito breeding sites, avoiding bites with the use of repellents, and consulting if symptoms of the disease occur.
