Azerbaijan and the United States agreed to conduct a dialogue in order to harmonize the goals of energy security and climate, Day.Az reported on Wednesday with reference to the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan following a meeting between the head of the ministry Parviz Shahbazov and Assistant to the US President Sarah Ladislav.
“Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov met at the White House with Assistant to the President of the United States for Special Affairs, Director General for Climate and Energy of the National Security Council (White House) Sarah Ladislav,” explained the Ministry of Energy.
As follows from the message, the meeting discussed the importance of long-term cooperation on the implementation of regional and international energy security projects, as well as the role of the Southern Gas Corridor during the complex energy crisis in the EU.
“Over three years, the Southern Gas Corridor has supplied more than 31 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Europe. Currently, the expansion of the SGC and the increase in supplies to Europe are being carried out through the efforts of Azerbaijan,” the press release recalls.
At the meeting with Ladislav, it was also noted that the rich potential of Azerbaijan’s renewable energy is aimed at implementing the country’s energy transition and diversifying energy supplies to Europe.
“The Caspian-Black Sea-Europe green energy corridor project was mentioned and the work done was reported. There is strong support for the development of green energy by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. In addition, Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of COP29 reflects its commitment to green “energy, climate agenda and decarbonization plans,” the Ministry of Energy noted in a statement.
Regarding the COP29, the parties exchanged views on Azerbaijan’s policies and plans related to the energy transition at the national and global level, possible contributions to the climate finance process and the reduction of methane emissions.
An agreement was reached to hold a dialogue on cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United States with the aim of harmonizing energy security and climate goals.
