This was a match where the shortcomings of team selection were again proven. While Sabbineni Meghna was not included in the squad despite his recent performances, Daylan Hemalatha, who has a poor record in ODIs and T20Is, came in at number three. Kiran Navgire, who had opened the innings in the domestic matches, came out sixth.
India started well but the attacking spirit gave Smriti Mandana a return ticket in the fourth over. Briony Smith dismissed Smriti who scored 23 runs off 20 balls. Shafali Verma (14 off 13 balls) also returned in the seventh over. Sarah Glenn got the wicket. Glenn also returned Hemalatha who scored 10 runs off 15 balls. Richa Ghosh (16 off 12 balls) and Harmanpreet Kaur (20 off 15 balls) got off to a good start but could not capitalize. Both were evicted by Freya Davies and Sarah Glenn respectively. Glen himself returned Kiran Navgire (7 off 13 balls). Pooja Vastrakar (3) is run out. Deepti Sharma (29 off 24 balls) and Sneh Rana (2) remained unbeaten.

In reply, England attacked from the start and scored 56 runs without losing a wicket. The hosts lost Daniel Wyatt (24 off 16 balls) in the seventh over. Sneh Rana got the wicket. However, Sophia Dunkley and Alice Capsey (32 off 20 balls) combined for the second wicket. The alliance added an unbeaten 74 runs.
