LDF convener EP Jayarajan justifies beating of disabled protester

In a controversial statement, LDF convener EP Jayarajan has sparked outrage by justifying the beating of a differently-abled protester. Jayarajan made the remarks in response to an incident in which Ajimon Kandallur, state secretary of the differently-abled Youth Congress, was beaten up while protesting by showing a black flag while a Navakerala bus was passing in Kayamkulam.

Jayarajan went on to say, “When the police are lathicharged, does anyone check whether the people standing against them have legs and hands? The feeling should rise against those who took that poor person who could not walk, gave him a black flag and pushed him in front of the Chief Minister’s car. Why are the Congressmen throwing that poor young man to brutality? Instead, go and beat VD Satheesan or K Sudhakaran. None of them will be. They will run as soon as they see a stick. Don’t bring in women and incite violence.”

The LDF convener also justified the beating of the gunman, stating, “Is it right to attack gunmen? The challenge the gunmen made on Facebook is second nature. First condemn this violence. After that, ask about the gunmen.”

These statements by Jayarajan have sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling for an apology and retraction of his remarks. Disability rights activists and opposition leaders have criticized Jayarajan for his insensitivity and lack of empathy towards the differently-abled.

It remains to be seen if Jayarajan will address the backlash and issue a public apology for his controversial statements.
